SCOTTSDALE IS SUN, FUN & GREAT DESERT GOLF

The U.S.A.’s best winter golf destination? Thousands of golfers every year think so…

With close to 200 courses in the area and great golf weather with no rain throughout most of the year, the Phoenix/Scottsdale area is one of the most popular golf destinations in the world. The peak season is winter and spring since temperatures are cooler, but summer and fall are the best times to find deals.

While there are golf courses for every price point, the area is loaded with high quality courses and resorts. One of the best is Troon North, with a pair of outstanding Jay Morrish-Tom Weiskopf courses tied into the Four Seasons Scottsdale. Scottsdale’s other resorts include the 36-hole Boulders Resort (with the outstanding Golden Door Spa), The Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (paired with the TPC Scottsdale), The Phoenician, Talking Stick, The Westin Kierland Resort, and the JW Marriott Camelback Resort.

As for stand-alone golf, the lengthy list is highlighted by Quintero, Grayhawk, We-Ko-Pa, Southern Dunes and Verrado. But that still leaves scores of golf courses to discover as you play your way across the desert!

Instructor
Martin Chuck

Recognized as a Golf Digest Top 50 and Golf Magazine Top 100 Coach, Martin Chuck developed his love and talent for the game of golf in Ontario, Canada. Like most kids from Canada slapping hockey pucks was his first sporting love. It wasn’t long before the allure of golf took hold. Like any true outlier in a given profession, Martin found himself in the shadow of two of the World’s best ball strikers and Canadian Legends, Moe Norman and George Knudson. At the age of sixteen, he began to assist George Knudson with his follow-up lessons at Knudson's Golf Center north of Toronto.  “The time spent around George and Moe was something I can’t really measure and didn’t realize how truly special of an opportunity it was,” says Chuck. “I was able to watch, witness and in the case of Mr. Knudson, work for one of the best of all-time. It is a pleasure to share my memories, stories and swing thoughts of two greats like Moe and George." Martin's passion for excellence during his 30 years of coaching has led him to work and learn from the game's best as he lists his direct and indirect mentors as; Mark Evershed, Mike LaBauve, Ben Doyle, Brian Manzella, Ben Kern, Mike Hebron, Lee Deitrick, Bobby Clampett, Joey Pickavance, Lynn Blake, Jeff Ritter, Craig Shankland, Herb Wimberly and Gus Jones.

Instructor
Scott Watkins, PGA

For a little over 28 years I’ve been a PGA instructor successfully helping golfers from beginners to PGA Tour players hone their golfing skills and lower scores and I will do the same for you regardless of your playing level! I have followed in my father, Arch’s footsteps, who is enshrined in the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame and the Southwest Section of the PGA Hall of Fame.

Mission Statement: My mission is to accelerate and simplify the learning process so you will achieve lasting results as fast as is reasonably possible without compromising the integrity of any aspect of your golf game.

Some major accomplishments and awards include:

Pac 10 Player of the Year

First and Second team All American at Arizona State University

Southwest Section PGA Section Player of the Year

Southwest Section PGA Teacher of the year

Five-time nominee for Golf Magazines Top 100 Golf Instructors

Ranked 9th, 12th, 11th and 7th in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013 respectively

Arizona Open Winner

4-time Southwest Section Champion

I accomplish it through the following teaching philosophy:

  1. Understand your goals and how much time you will devote to achieving them through practice and playing
  2. Determine with you which sensory teaching method best enables your learning process
  3. Customize and communicate instructions that are consistent with your sensory learning preference so we are in sync and can accelerate the learning curve
  4. Implement a relevant lesson plan, tweak it as necessary, and achieve positive results

Your Key Towards Success: Whether you are a beginner, want a swing change, a tweak, or otherwise improve your game, the key towards success is using an experienced instructor whose teaching method is in sync with the way you learn best, be it verbally, visually, or through feel.

The Wrong Key: If the instructor’s teaching method is different from the way you learn best there will be a serious communication problem that adversely affects your learning process. For instance, if you learn best with visuals and your instructor’s method of teaching is through a sense of feel the lesson will be out of sync from the beginning.

PGA Touring Pros: Over 99% of the PGA Tour’s top players have swing coaches whose teaching methods are consistent with their sensory learning ability. This enables them to realize positive results as fast as possible because the pro and swing-coach are on the same wavelength… and results are what count.

Call or email me so we can talk about achieving your golf goals and getting positive results!
