History
Founded in 1921, with the initial members obtaining a charter in June of that year, construction on a new Stanley Thompson-designed golf course, and a clubhouse, were completed the following year. Unfortunately, the new clubhouse didn’t last. As was the case with many clubhouses of its era, it was destroyed by fire five years after it opened, and a mortgage was undertaken to allow a new one to be completed. The history of the current Beach Grove—with its emphasis on family activities outside of simply golf—dates back to 1929 when the club added yachting, tennis and bathing facilities to the club.
Over more than 80 years, Beach Grove has had a focus on family. In 1937 it was suggested the club transition to a family membership with a pool. Two years later the pool opened with a newly landscaped area on the lake and a new dock. The changes allowed the club to provide alternatives to golf for the entire family, ranking Beach Grove among the pioneers in the private club sector. Much has changed over the years since then, but the club remains focused on the key factors that have distinguished it in the market.
Golf  at BEACH GROVE
Stanley Thompson remains Canada’s best golf designer, an architect whose creations remain the country’s most-loved courses. At Beach Grove we have a course that remains true to Thompson’s vision: easily walked, bold in places, always picturesque and playable by all. With fairways snaking between trees that seemingly stretch to the sky, you’re not going to lose many balls at Beach Grove, but that doesn’t mean it is easy either. Instead, you have the perfect mix of challenge and playability, and Beach Grove’s classic Thompson styling means no round will be quite like the previous.
The course is one of the earliest from Thompson’s long career, which includes the likes of Banff Springs, Capilano, Highlands Links and St. George’s. His hallmarks—detailed and occasionally devilish greens, and distinctive bunkering—can be witnessed throughout the course.
Beach Grove offers a short game practice area as part of its facilities, and also provides a winter golf academy for those seeking to improve their game in the colder months. The winter facility, which is operated from the professional shop, includes all the modern teaching tools, including Trackman, which allows our PGA of Canada professionals to fully fit you for clubs, as well as BodiTrack, which maps fundamentals of a golfer’s swing.
