The 18-hole golf course, built by the American army after a forest fire on an old tank training area between Walldorf and Oftersheim, is one of the oldest golf courses in Baden-Württemberg. The course was designed by Bernhard von Limburger, a German golf course architect and once a pioneer of golf in Germany.
The slightly hilly complex, located on centuries-old sand dunes, is bordered by a thick pine forest in the south and west. In the east the view extends over fields to Heidelberg and the Odenwald. The old stock of trees gives the traditional and oldest golf course in the metropolitan region a special touch and allows a pleasant game even in the heat. There are no water hazards, but the hard-to-play greens are well defended by bunkers and demand respect from even well-trained golfers. Five par 5 and five par 3 holes represent a special feature that is not often found.
The golf course is one of the most popular year-round playable courses in Germany due to the very attractive landscape and the soil conditions (sandy soil).
In 2020 the course will be extensively renovated, all bunkers will be renewed and the fairway edges on many fairways will be modulated. However, the square will retain its original design.
