Raleigh Country Club offers private golf, aquatics, dining and social events for the whole family. Members have access to twelve sister properties that span the Carolinas and into Tennessee.Established in 1948.Raleigh Country Club boasts the last course designed by the legendary Donald Ross. The course has remained true to the original standards, as described by the Donald Ross Society, of making each hole present a different problem, making every stroke count, and taking full advantage of terrain while wasting no ground. The nostalgia for rediscovering the spirit of the game as it was intended has elevated Raleigh Country Club to its reputation as the finest golf experience in Raleigh, North Carolina.John was invited to play at Raleigh Country Club in the summer of 2003 just after returning from a business trip to Pittsburgh where he played the famed Oakmont Country Club. “I thought to myself, this course could be a mini-Oakmont. It was that good,” he recalled. It was not soon thereafter that McConnell took over ownership of the club, rescuing Donald Ross’s last design. Now, fully devoting his time to his passion – the game of golf – what began as John’s vision for one club, has grown over the past 10 years to a portfolio of seven prestigious clubs in the Carolinas. John was born and raised in Abingdon, VA and graduated from Virginia Tech in 1972. John, a denizen of the Triangle’s technology community, co-founded Medic Computer Systems in the early 1980’s and ran it for 16 years, before founding McConnell Golf.
