The Story of Pine Scones: A business built on a name!
Once upon a beautiful Sandhills morning, Rae Anne Kinney was headed out for a latte and longed for a freshly baked scone to pair it with. Out of the clear blue Carolina sky the name “Pine Scones” popped into her head! The name quickly compelled her to start baking and testing recipes with friends and family. The Blueberry White Chocolate was an instant hit, the Green Gobblin’ became her handyman’s favorite, and her family was happy to taste test all of Rae’s other creations. Pretty much everyone who tried them got hooked!
This led to the creation of Pine Scones of the Sandhills, a home-based artisan bakery, in July of 2009. The scones were freshly baked and delivered to local coffee shops, directly to customers, and sold at Moore County Farmers Markets. Over time, Pine Scones outgrew Rae’s home operation and in March of 2016 the first retail store was opened.
Pine Scone Café of Pinehurst, located on Linden Road, thrives in a beautiful neighborhood surrounded by wonderful people! Our second location, on Brucewood Road in Southern Pines, makes it possible to share our addicting Pine Scones and hand-crafted beverages with a broader community. As our customer base continues to grow, it’s clear that “everybody must get sconed”!
