Mike Shirley

Mike, who is an Alabama native, was introduced to golf and the golf industry at Woodward Country Club in Birmingham, AL by his Dad and Dana Garmany, PGA Professional and founder of the Troon Management Company. Both men mentored Mike and opened doors for him to pursue golf competitively and as a career. Upon graduating from college, Mike got his start at Green Valley Country Club as an Assistant Golf Professional under the tutelage of PGA Professional Tommy Truss. After three years, he earned membership into the Professional Golfers’ Association as a Class A Member.

Since 2003, Mike has served as a Golf Professional in the city of Montgomery and is currently the General Manager at Lagoon Park Golf Course. Additional mentors that played a role in his development as an instructor include Butch Byrd and Mike Shannon. Mike loves golf and is devoted to introducing the game to adults and juniors alike. He emphasizes fundamentals and ball control as he shares his love of the game to those around him. He likes to share a quote from Ben Hogan to all his students, and that is, “Reverse every natural instinct and do the opposite of what you are inclined to do, and you will probably come very close to having a perfect golf swing.”
