Popular Keizer Course will have a private future. McNary Golf Course lies in Salem’s northern neighbor of Keizer, on land that once housed the family farm of one of Oregon’s most prominent citizens, Governor and U.S. Senator Charles McNary. The course, which opened in 1962, was purchased in 1983 by Portland based Hillman Properties. McNary encompasses 150 acres of meadows. The course is one of the most beautiful layouts in the area with lakes, impeccable fairways and greens. A small pond fronts the 11th hole, and Claggett Creek enters play on four holes. Stately oaks, firs, walnuts, redwoods, and pines line fairways. McNary enjoys excellent drainage, with one of the most playable winter courses in the Northwest. An extensive sprinkler system keeps the course green in the summer. McNary is one of western Oregon’s favorite venues for private tournaments.
